Enjoy working in a virtual office with Non-geographic telephone numbers by a_gar45
Working from home is becoming extremely popular these days. But then there are a few things that you need to consider. For example how can you choose Peter Mansion as your business address? In a business you need to meet your clients. While at home you can’t even be sure of the fact that your baby just picks up the phone of your client. People hardly care if you are working from home....

Panasonic PABX question by Graham J[_3_]
I have a Panasonic Easa-Phone 30810BE. I want to add another extension. On opening the cover I see several RJ11 sockets, marked: - CO1 - CO2 - CO3 - these are for the external lines (two are in use) - EXT21 through EXT28 - of which EXT21 through EXT26 are in use by 6 extension phones, which all work correctly. I found an adapter with an RJ11 plug to a BT socket, and a spare phone. To

Boundary between BT and householder responsibility for phone wiring by Mortimer[_2_]
As I understand it, for a house with a two-part BT master socket, the boundary between BT and householder responsibility for line faults that affect broadband is the master socket: *even if BT rather than the householder has installed an extension*, that extension is the householder's responsibility. But what is the situation if there no discernable master socket? The other day I was called...

Errors in BT's area code list. by nrs22
I was sent this a few days ago, and I think that it would be useful for a wider audience to see it. It's a list of errors in BT's online area code list, some of which are many years old. http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/uk_codes/search.publisha?Search=020 (023) 80 should be (023) 8 Ashurst (023) 80 should be (023) 8 Bursledon

Tayside and surrounding area old local dialling codes by [email protected]
I'm wondering if anyone who may have an old dialling code book can help me out with old dialling codes in the Blairgowrie/Forfar/ Kirriemuir/Perth/Dundee/Cupar/Ladybank areas pre 1982. I am particularly interested in the 9X and 9XX (or the earlier 0X and 0XX) codes used between GSCs or between GSCs and dependents any single (usually 5,6,7 or 8) and double digit (usually 7X and 8X) local junction...

Degree Qualified Telecoms Engineers in Sharjah required by BauhausEnergy
Hello everybody. I hope you are all well. Having spent the last 5 years working in the UK Telecoms market, I am very surprised I didn't stumble across this site sooner. I wish I had as there are some very interesting subjects posted on here. I am unsure of the site's rules with regards to posting jobs on here but I am genuinely looking for 4 x Telecoms Engineers for either permanent roles or 12...

GeoLocation of UK Telephone Numbers by JDT
Hello uk.telecom, (my first post) I am looking for a webservice which when given a UK telephone number, returns a latitude, longitude and area. i.e. Query: 0141 574 xxx, Returns: (55.8659829, -4.2602205) (2 mile radius) I would like to do 'local area' searches by phone e.g. "Where is my local pizza shop?" or "Which of our branches is closest to you?"

Telephone service and ADSL by john wright
We get telephone service via the phone co-op and ADSL from freedom to surf. The phone co-op says we don't need a BT line to make the ADSL work, but freedom to surf say we do. As a consequence we end up paying BT for what seems to be large amounts of money for nothing. The ADSL would appear to come from a BT DSLAM since there is no local loop unbundling here. Who is right in this? At least...

Is 18185 login down? by [Lnz]
I've been trying to log in into my account with 18185 to see whether forgetting to hang up after a call to a mobile has been very expensive, but after I enter my registered phone number and customer number, nothing happens. Is it just me, or is it happening to others too? TIA Lorenz

Exchange Names by Bill Borland
For many years, telephone directories have been showing progressively fewer exchange names, and more and more "national" numbers only. I note that they now no longer even include a list of STD codes at the beginning - apparently we have moved, or have been moved, to a completely all-figure-number system. Has there been any formal announcement about this, or has it just been sneaked in by the...

Orange SMS to BT landline by The Other Mike
Historically when I sent an sms from Orange to a BT landline it displayed my mobile number on the caller display of the recipient as well as repeating it during the voiced delivery of the specific sms. Now it would appear that another number, possibly an 0845 number is displayed. Is anyone else aware of these changes and why the previous implementation was altered?

Getting BT to fix an intermittent fault by Gordon Henderson
This is probably just a frustrated rant... So here's the issue - and it's been going on for some years now... We get a period of hot, dry weather and then my ADSL line starts to drop-out. A bit of wind, such as today makes it worse. I've tried everything I feel I can try at my end - 3 different filters, 2 different ADSL modem/routers (although both Draytek, but different models), going into...

Phone (not mobile) testing equipment by robert
Is there any equipment available for testing the basic functions of a corded phone without using a working phone line ? I volunteer in a charity shop and we frequently have phones donated which I test before sale. At present I use the shop's phone line and 17070 to test them which is far from convenient. I am looking for a more convenient standalone method ! Thanks
